CRACKING CARPET GROMIT!
The Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes has brought the outside inside with the installation of an innovative grass effect ‘Quickturf’ carpet in part of its new look Visitor Centre.
Visitors will be able to walk on the grass-like carpet along the cheese-making viewing gallery to witness Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheeses being handcrafted to a time-honoured recipe.
The look and feel of the room reflects the countryside and the Dales pastures and brings the flora, fauna and wildlife of the area to life with beautifully designed pictures and graphics.
The installation of Quickturf is one of the final parts of the Creamery’s £800,000 investment in its Visitor Centre. Installed by Newark-based Replay Maintenance, Quickturf is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of artificial turf, more usually used for outdoor areas.
The new-look visitor centre has already attracted considerable attention with visitor numbers up 20% in April 2011 compared to the same time last year.
The Creamery’s Visitor Centre is already one of the largest tourist attractions in the Yorkshire Dales with more than 200,000 people a year coming through its doors. It is estimated the new-look Visitor Centre will attract an extra 50,000 visitors a year.
David Hartley, The Creamery’s Managing Director, said: “The improvements to the viewing gallery mark the final stages of the overall refurbishment of the Creamery’s visitor centre.
“We are situated in one of the most beautiful and scenic parts of the country and we wanted to create a really natural environment in the viewing gallery reflecting this.
“The installation of the grass carpet has helped us to achieve our aim and the overall impression is very natural, which we believe enhances the experience of our visitors.”
Garry Martin, from Quickturf, said: “It is quite unusual for us to install one of the Quickturf range indoors, but once it was laid the turf carpet looked fantastic and fitted perfectly with the outdoorsy feel that has been created.”
